The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SVdP) was founded in Paris in 1833, by a young French student, Frédéric Ozanam, to confront his city’s devastating poverty. Inspired by St. Vincent de Paul, a 17th century French priest who had an untiring commitment to serving the poor, Ozanam’s mission was clear—help those in need on a one-to-one basis and “accomplish through charity what justice alone cannot do.” Compassion in action was the heart of Frédéric Ozanam’s spirituality.
SVdP is a Catholic lay organization of women and men joined together to grow spiritually by offering services to our neighbors in need. In the spirit of love and justice, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Joseph Conference provides person-to-person services of time, talent and resources to help those in need. SVdP respects the dignity of every person. We provide a safety-net services for families and individuals in our communities of Lincoln, Sheridan, Wheatland and Nicolaus.
We meet at 3:00 PM on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in the Family Center

Opportunity to Volunteer!!!
"In serving the poor, we serve Christ"...St Vincent de Paul
We are a volunteer group that provides support to assist community members with food, rent, and utilities to help prevent food insecurity and homelessness.
If interested please email us at: svdpstjo@gmail.com or, attend one of our meetings at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in the Family Center, at 3:00 pm on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month.Volunteers, with varied skills, are needed for 4-8 hours (plus) per month for:
- Home Visit Team-this is the main focus of our organization, and a great opportunity to serve the poor directly. Hours vary according to the need.
- Data Team- Ensuring data accuracy in our database and responsible for entering Satellite Neighbors' reports.
- Grant Writing-additional funds are needed due to increased community needs for help.
- Bilingual Support-translators are needed
- Secretarial needs (meeting minutes)
- Accounting/Bookkeeping Skills
- Stocking and Organizing the Food Pantry
- Phone Support-we have a team that takes the initial neighbors call for assistance.
- Sunshine Person-we need 1-3 people to send cards/call members for various occasions ie illness, death, thank you, congratulations.
- Event Planning, Preparation and Support
- Membership Drive and Training
- Fundraisers: Walk for the Poor, Christmas Giving Tree, Leatherby's Ice Cream Night.
